Implementation of ODU'S QEP: Improving Disciplinary Writing (IDW) will give the faculty the opportunity to learn more about teaching and assessing student writing in the upper-division undergraduate courses they teach. A supportive, creative, and ongoing community environment will allow faculty to engage meaningfully in new pedagogies. This environment will also encourage them to embrace the idea that they are teaching the discipline even more effectively when they teach disciplinary writing.

The IDW Faculty Workshops have been developed and will be facilitated by outstanding ODU faculty members with expertise in the writing and pedagogy. In the workshops, faculty will have opportunities to explore important questions and concerns.

IDW Workshops are designed for faculty who teach upper-division undergraduate (300 and 400-level) courses and help provide them with techniques identified as best practices to enhance writing to learn. During these five-day writing workshops, faculty are helped to re-design or create a writing assignment in their course that addresses ODU's six student learning outcomes in writing as well as are given tools for more consistent grading along with innovative ways to add field-specific writing prompts into their courses.
